About Us

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in general known as IIT Kanpur and IITK is a top-class public engineering institution located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. It was founded in the year 1959. IIT Kanpur offers many courses in engineering. However, IIT Kanpur is set to open an extension center in Noida which is the nearby city of Delhi and also known as NCR. It was declared an Institute by the Government of India under the Institutes of Technology Act.

IIT Kanpur is situated on the Grand Trunk Road with a distance of 15 kilometers west of Kanpur City and sprawling with an area of 420 hectares of land. This land was granted by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 1960. The Institute had moved to its current location in March 1963.

IIT Kanpur was internationally placed 291 in QS World University Rankings for 2020. It was ranked 61 in QS Asia Rankings 2019 and 25 among BRICS nations. The Times Higher Education World University (THEWU) Rankings ranked it 601-800 globally in 2020 ranking 82 in Asia and 46 among Emerging Economies University Rankings 2019.

The IIT Kanpur offers various undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated and research programs in the field of Engineering, Science, Management, and Design and it is also committed to impart excellence engineering education on national and international standards. It has the intention to make enable through the specialized faculty of the candidates who can be able to face any issues in the field of engineering.

Undergraduate courses such as four-year B.Tech Programs in Aerospace Engineering, Biological Sciences and Bio-engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering are offered by the institute.

Postgraduate courses such as Master of Technology (M.Tech), MS (R) and Ph.D. degrees have been offered by the IIT Kanpur. The institute also offers other curriculums such as 2- years of M.Des., 2-years MBA. and 2-years M.Sc. degrees.
